The Adoption Process

South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter believes in an open adoption policy that focuses on placing pets in homes that are best suited for them and the adopter.. Each animal in our care is unique and placement decisions are made based upon their individual needs.

  1. Visit South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter and meet available pets
  2. Complete the adoption questionnaire
  3. Speak with the adoptions team about your home, routine, and lifestyle to ensure a good match
  4. Go HOME! Most adoptions can be completed the same day!

*Some situations require all humans in the household to meet the animal before adopting. Dog adoptions require all dogs in the household to meet the new dog before adopting. If the animal being adopted has yet to be spayed/neutered, a trial adoption may be implemented on a case by case basis. Full adoptions are completed when spay/neuter is complete.

Adoption Guidelines

It is our mission to ensure that the animals in our care find loving homes that are the right fit for both them and their family.

Therefore, we reserve the right to decline an adoption if we feel the pet is not a match, or the adopter is:

  • Under the age of 18
  • Under the influence of drugs or alcohol during visit
  • Has a history of animal cruelty violations

Due to the number of animals that we receive and find homes for every day, we can not guarantee that specific animals listed on our site will be available when you visit.

Adoptions are on a first come first serve basis and based on the best possible match for each animal.
